Land Without Shadows
During the early days of the pandemic, I found myself drawn to Coney Island. Not for its noise or color, but for its quiet. For the first time, the boardwalk was empty. No crowds, no music, just light. The Lenape once called this place Narrioch, meaning “land without shadows,” and that phrase stayed with me.
This project is my attempt to capture that rare stillness. Sunlight hitting empty rides. Silence where there was once chaos. It became less about documenting a location and more about recording a feeling. What it’s like when the world pauses and we see familiar places in a completely different light.
I later published a limited-edition zine from the series and exhibited the selected prints at Moonlab 42 / May 27, 2023
