Dimitri Mais, editorial and corporate photographer based in Brooklyn, New York

About me

I’m Dimitri Mais, a photographer based in New York, working with people and brands who care about how they are seen.

Based in New York, my work spans editorial portraiture, brand development, commercial assignments, and long-term visual partnerships. Projects range from individual commissions to ongoing collaborations where imagery evolves alongside a growing business.

The focus is simple: create photography that feels considered, intentional, and aligned with purpose.

Originally from Tbilisi, Georgia, I came to photography through painting, portraits and landscapes were my first sustained practice. That foundation shaped how I approach light, composition, and subject. I've been based in New York for over a decade, and the city has informed both the pace and the precision of the work.

Experience & Direction

My background bridges editorial work and commercial production.

That means the images are shaped by:

• Light that feels natural but deliberate
• Environments that support narrative
• Subtle structure behind spontaneous moments
• A consistent visual language

Over the years, I’ve worked with creative professionals, founders, hospitality brands, design studios, and service-based businesses, developing imagery used across websites, campaigns, social platforms, press features, and internal communications.

The work has been published in The New York Times, Vogue, and Downtown Magazine, alongside ongoing client projects that rarely appear in print.

How I Work

Strong visual identity doesn’t happen by accident.

Every project begins with conversation, understanding tone, audience, and intention. From there, we define direction, plan the environment, and build a framework that allows the work to feel effortless.

The goal isn’t volume. It’s cohesion.

Whether it’s a portrait session, a brand shoot, or an ongoing partnership, the emphasis remains the same: clarity, consistency, and longevity.

Working In New York

Most of my work happens across Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the broader New York metro area. I shoot in a range of environments: designed offices, private studios, restaurants and hospitality spaces, and outdoor locations throughout the city. New York offers a density of context that few places match, every neighborhood carries its own visual texture, and that specificity tends to surface in the work. Clients based locally benefit from that familiarity, both in location scouting and in the pace of production.
